Resolved Question: wedding venues in hometown?

how did you guys find your wedding venue? i live almost 500 miles away from my (and my fiancee's) hometown. we want to get married in our hometown near family and friends, so i have been looking for venues online, but im not having much luck. i tried theknot.com but all of the venues its showing me are 50 or so miles away. because im too far to do the footwork myself, and i dont want to rely on other people to find the perfect venue for me, i was wondering if there are some better websites for me to try. just so you guys know, im looking for places in either Palmdale or Lancaster California. FYI, its not that i don't trust ANYONE. i would trust my mother and MOH to do it, except my mother works two jobs and is very busy. and my MOH lives about 90 miles away. so i really just want to handle as much as i can by myself. i have googled and googled and googled and nothing has satisfied me. help please and thanks you....
